DIY Flared sleeve Denim Jacket ft. Upcycled Denim

Hey There guys! I hope everyone is doing well. I'm trying to enjoy this extra long Indian Summer, but at a point you just want it to feel like fall. I have pieces that I've made that I simply cannot wear because of this heat, but we press on.

In a previous thrift haul I snagged some Denim that was a few sizes too big. I mostly wanted it for the fabric real estate. So I used that to make this cropped denim jacket with a flared sleeve.

I started off by making a masking tape pattern of an existing Denim Jacket. Then I shortened all the bodice pieces to the desired cropped length. I also altered the sleeve pattern so that it was one piece instead of an upper sleeve and lower sleeve. I used my seam ripper to open the pant legs of all the denim I was going to use. I placed the pattern on the fabric and cut two wide pieces. I used the back pocket pieces and cut them short, then topstitched them on the front bodice pieces.

To finish it up I frayed the edges of both the sleeves and the bodice. I've had a lot of fun playing with proportions lately and I like the idea of something that is cropped and still a bit oversized. I'm really happy with the final result and will be wearing when it's cooler out.

I paired it with a pair of wideleg pants and a body suit I made using an Etsy printable bathing suit pattern.
