Hey y’all! Happy Independence Day (to those who are observing.) I don’t typically celebratebut Liberian Independence Day also falls in July so there’s a perfectly good reason to break out some red white and blue fabric for the first make of July,
.

This is a two- parter, I’ve actually been able to get more than one item done a week with my schedule, so I’ve been taking advantage. I used two different patterns…McCalls 6740 and New Look 6627.
Starting with the dress…I love this pattern and it’s fairly easy. A gored pattern is probably my favorite way to create volume, It gives a very flirty but demure silhouette. And it’s got a 90s vibe to it too and I love anything retro.
I used this ditzy red and white crepe that I found at Michael Levine for $5 a yard. The pattern calls for 4 an a half yards for 60 inch width, but I only used about 3 and three fourths. But if you were using stripes or something that required matching you definitely would need more. With the lining its a weighty dress, but still breathable. The pattern was quick and easy to follow I strongly recommend.

Now on to the vest. I used New Look 6627 view A. It’s incredibly quick as well. I used this Vlisco Ankara print that I also found downtown that contrasted perfectly. I have plenty left over and I’m already brainstorming what else to do with it. I styled it with my favorite platform mules from unique vintage and some light accessories.
